Hi,

This summer we will go to Elba andCorsica. What are the good places to go to?
nice bays, towns, ports etc. We are with our children (they love swimming, scuba diving, beaches).

At Elba try Marina di Campo, Porto Azzuro I remember these. In Corsica which is a million times better there is an amazing beach just south around the corner from S. Florent, beach is talcum powder and the sea is turquoise, from there just keep going anti-clockwise. After Calvi there are more amazing anchorages and natural reserves including Girolatte where the mountains meet the sea. The only negative is that you will be exposed to NW Maestrale which can (if you get caught) really get going 30-40 kts. is normal and may keep you pinned down for days (but it's worth it anyway).

porto Azzuro, is now pay, the yard isent worth useing. If your not to big you can get a paid mooring at the end of the bay,if you intend going off for a day or two. rio marina is open and the charter co has taken the best place, cavo lets you stay two days free including water and elec. Best least expensive mechanic anywhere.
Best crane if you need to come out,i do my anti fouling there.
You must visit Rio Marina amazing little town i stay there often for a week or two to paint my tender, black volcanic sand-great and easy for shopping. Port is very open.
Marciana marina is still free, yacht club has places as well not expensive and supply ice, showers both public and private good.
Porto Ferio still has some free places but open and suffers from the ferry traffic
Corsica is paradise, bit full in summer, beware that the east coast silts up!! mind the sand banks close the coast with care and a depth sounder on! If your not to big (18meters+) you must try to get a place in Bastia-the old port-eat lunch at one of the many cafes just wonderful place to start your visit to Corsica (depending where your coming from)
In summer the whole of France arrives by boat!!! But only July and August the rest of the years perfect. I spent a whole year there,in a happy haze of content! In fact i almost decided to stay for ever--my prefered all year area Bastia, but for shear wonder the west coast is a must to cruise down a bay every mile! On that side there are rocks--try not to bump into them there quite hard!

If you have a look on my website (link below) you will find lots of information on Corsica and Elba.

Don't miss out Capraia - it's a gem!

Corse - Porto Vecchio, Sollenzara, Ajaccio Bay. All good anchorages and/or marinas.

the best anchorage I came across in Elba was just N of the entrance to Porto Azzuro.

Enjoy.

PS The Maddalenas are far more picturesque than everything else. Avoid the Ministero della Ambiente collectors.

I agree again the bay is very nice but open to the east which when it blows dose! Only point is apart from swiming and lying on the beach its very cut off no shopping and quite a long trip round in the tender, It also has a very good veiw of the prision!!!
If you like diving just anchor in the main bay call a diving center and ask them to pick you up from your boat!
