Corrosion

I have an iron centerboard on my Herreshoff America catboat. Is it recommended to apply copper antifoul paint to this, or will that cause a dissimilar metal corrosion problem, and speed the inevitable demise of the board? Also, is it recommended to attach a zinc to an iron board? Thanks for your input.

Normal treatment for a cast Iron Keel is to have it shotblasted and immediately (within an hour) epoxy coated before any treatment such as antifouling. This would insulate the iron from the copper.

Copper antifouling on steeel is fine, I would shotblast it, epoxy underccoat it, then antifoul it. A zinc anode is a very good idea and in fact neccessary, make sure it makes a good electrical connection, IE, clean the area of antifoul, to bare steel where the bolt/nut and washer attaches it to the centre plate. Then antifoul over the bolt/nut and washer, NOT the anode itself.
