Corrosion stains on aluminium boom

Anyone have a recommendation for methods, chemicals or off the shelf products for getting rid of these embarassing brown stains on my boom and mast which have sat in the yard for 3 years

Polish cutting paste.?? May be

Any form of abrasive paste or compound will remove the stain but will almost certainly also remove the anodising layer of aluminium oxide which contains the gold pigment.

You could try one of the many cleaning pastes (e.g. CIF) to see if a tiny bit of rubbing removes the stain but one alternative if you want a smart boom is to use a two part epoxy in the colour of your choice.

I don't consider those stains to be embarrassing. It's normal for well used boats.

I've never found anything which removes stains on masts/booms without damaging them.
