I have just mounted a set of new NASA instruments on a perspex panel and am ready to mount the panel in the cockpit on the port bulkhead.

The holes have been drilled and all that remains is for the panel to be mounted. I intend to use an adhesive as well as screws.

My questions is, what screws are best for exterior use. I have used 'so called' stainless steel screws in the past, only for them to rust within weeks.

Would B&Q grade 'stainless steel' screws be okay, or do I need to pay £3 per screw at the local swindlery?

You have probably used screws in type 302/304 stainless ie A2. You will get surface discolouration on these but they wont corrode anything like mild steel in the open air. What does appear can be got rid with oxalic acid.

If you are really bothered, get some in 316 stainless or A4. Shouldnt cost a lot more.

The type of s/s is shown on bolt heads, but often there isnt space on screw heads.

Hi,
I recommend "Felix fasteners Ltd.", they have a wide selection and very good prices.
They are also very helpful on the phone - with next day delivery. 01420 520359
Keep away from A2 for exterior use.
