corroded alkaline AA battery compartment

Anyone have have tips on how to clean up the liquid (acid or alkali?) liquid left inside my handheld plotter after I removed old corroded batteries.

Quarter of a toilet roll later and still there is some liquid in the depths (slot about 8 inches deep).

Have dropped a few silica dessicant type crystals down there for now.

If it were me, I'd take it to bits and flush with water. Even if you can't dismantle it, hand hot tap water is OK followed by a rinse of de-ionised water. Leave it to dry for a long time before putting new batteries in.

Only other thing I could find was this daubing with baking powder solution (but that would leave water AND a salt in there) so your idea of just water would be better, cheers.
