Dear all,

Since I am sailing my Corribee MkII in the Mediterranean most of the time with light wind, I would like to upgrade my rigging with a taller mast in order to carry a wider sail area. Right now I have the standard rig verison (21 ft.) I would like to know if anyone have info about the lenght of the mast of the tall rig version. Thanks a lot!

Hello Corto,

I just looked up the Newbridge brochure for the Corribee and it has just about every dimension apart from the mast length !

The details you have seem a bit unusual, normally I'd expect the mast to be longer than the boat.

It might be worth calling Westaway Sails, they have a good library of boat measurements, Sailspar are also a good bet, they're very helpful.

Westaway Sails 01752 892560

Sailspar masts & rigs 01206 251348

No connection, good luck.

Thanks for all the infos Seajet. The mast is exactly the same length of the hull (maybe few inches more). I've heard that some Corribees has a "tall rig" and others a "standard rig" that I presume is the one I have. Anyway I will ck with Westway Sails. Thanks again

I've always thought that Corribees had surprisingly shorts masts: I had a 21' boat for years which had a 25'6" mast. All is explained if there were two sizes of rig: my boat had a cruising boom two feet shorter than the original racing one.

Have you looked at the Corribee website http://corribee.org/

Other than that the person to ask is forumite srp http://www.ybw.com/forums/member.php?19705-srp

If he does not find this thread and respond I suggest you PM him.

Looking at the brochure for a Corribee III it gives some sail areas for the tall rig: the main increases from 8.4 sqm to 9.8, and assuming the boom can't be much longer (if any) then I'm sure it's possible to work out the increased height of the main triangle if you know the boom length - possibly ignore any roach in your sail?

I've just scaled off from the brochure and done the calculation, and get an increase to about 24 foot 6", or about 16%, for a mark III

The possible fly in the ointment for you is the question of the extra ballast. The brochure quotes 431 kg ballast for a tall rig, vs 380 for a bilgy and 395kg for a fin, so any extra you put on to stabilise your tall rig might mean you have virtually no freeboard. On the plus side, you'll now find the cockpit functions as a wonderful cooling footbath!
