Hi,
I have a Princess 32 (circa 1978) with twin Volvo Penta AQD32A (106 hp), mated to 280 outdrives. I use the boat mainly on inland waterways and I believe that it is over-propped. At present the fitted props are 16x17 and they protrude below the skeg of the outdrives.

Does anyone know what the standard prop would be, or have a recommendation that would best suit the type of use on inland waterways? With the current installation, I'm only revving at about 1100-1200 rpm at river speeds.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks
Malc

It depends on what you are wanting.
Overpropping means low revs, low noise, good fuel consumption but maybe even at idle you'll be travelling too fast so would have dip in and out of gear when manoeuvring.

This is a small price to pay for the other benefits and the engine will be working a bit harder.

Otherwise smaller props will simply mean more revs and noise. The engines will be even more lightly loaded which is not good for a diesel.

Best idea is to fit an outboard bracket on the stern and use a 5hp petrol outpboard - perfectly adequate on a river or canal.

Suggest you post on the MOBO forum or ask a Volvo dealer who will hopefully have access to a chart showing the original specifications.
