There seems to be a plethora of fittings used on the fuel system on the boat. I have always managed to get something to fit and work but will appreciate knowing the 'correct or best'
fittings to use.
For example I have obtained a new mechanical pump for my 'new' Perkins 4108, it came with brass 'compression' fittings which fits the pump body holes and rubber 'olives'. The fitting will take a 1/4 od copper pipe. I don't understand/like the 'olive' as it would seem that the pipe could be pulled out through the 'olive' even under compression whereas a proper olive compresses the pipe a bit and holds the pipe.
I have also seen flared ends used on these connections and these seem like a good idea ?
I will be interested to learn more about using these rubber things, piping up the lift pump particularly and fuel line fittings generally.
I have had some success with 8mm plastic hose with inserts and proper olives but find my source (SSL) limited in sizes stocked.
