I am considering buying either a Coronet 21 or 24 Cabin Cruiser. Does anyone own one that can provide some detail on how good/bad these boats are. Any info would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks.

Built by Botved Boats in Sweden I believe, around the 70's.
Good quality in their day.
All (?) petrol outdrive, so beware.
Resins were not so good against osmosis in those days.
Did quite well in the Cowes/Torquay races of the time so should be good at sea.

I am in the process of putting a new V6 Volvo in a '79 21ft, then owner is mad about the boat so is spending £15,000 on a new engine and drive. Should be good for 36-38 knts with 225 hp. Its a simple boat with basic interior but well built, although I would get the hull checked for osmosis.

Think they were all Det Norske Veritas certified, our equivalent of Lloyds of London so top notch quality for their day. Always seem to get good write ups, loads of wood on board which can be a mixed blessing. Hulls are pretty well bomb proof and great sea keeping quality. Only potential downside are the engines which were almost all petrol + the now in most cases ancient outdrives.

Good qulity well built boats. In some cases probably heavier lay-up than boats today. Basic interiors to today's standards and agree that checks needed for osmosis. If original, engines likely to be tired and outdrives should be thoroughly checked. Have seen some re-engined with diesels which would be good but you pay a premium. Perhaps look for a cheap good condition boat with old ptrol and spend money on replacement engine.
