Hi all.....Im contemplating buying a Coronet 32. Ive only ever hired boats on the Thames and Norfolk so would apreciate some advice on my first boat. Its powered by twin Volvo Penta 260a engines,,,asking price 25k.1972 and from the photographs looks to be in immaculate condition.

I live on the Wirral which is ten mins away from Liverpool Marina and have no experience in off shore cruising so to go anywhere would mean exiting the Mersey which without training I wouldnt contemplate. How much experience/training would be needed?

The other things I need to consider is costs,,on full tilt it uses 14 gallons an hour max speed 25 knots,,,does this sound about right?.. I realise an off sure cruiser is more about a to b travel but I was moaning about a 1.5 bmc using £460 worth of fuel on a recent holiday. The marina wants £3000 to keep it there and I have no idea how much the survey is going to cost or how much so any advice on these issues would be greatly apreciated...

Might be better off posting in the motor boat forum. At a guess the fuel consumption sounds low if it has two big petrol engines (maybe more accurate or a bit high for diesels), convert the numbers to pounds per hour to run and ask yourself how many hours can you afford to use it for.
