Can anyone help with some info. I plan to pick up an extra passenger in Corinth on our way from Ionian to Aegean. What are the facilities like in Corinth yacht harbour for an overnight stay?,and how far is it from the Bus station to Athens?
Also...re the canal itself..from the west end..do we wait at the entrance for the OK to proceed..I know there are lights etc.but what is the current procedure? Would welcome any advice

Corinth harbour is good for a stop. I don't know where the bus station is but the town is a semicircle around the harbour so can't be too far. The radius of the circle is about 2 miles.

The Canal lights were not working Spring 2006 so maybe use your radio. We were positioned to the north of the entrance and told to follow a slow coaster.

A very intersting experience and well the £80.

Corinth Harbour is fine for an overnighter - but it`s not very large so try to arive early in the day if you can. Buses go from the "square" about 500m from the harbour. On the way there is also one of the very best supermarkets you will find in Greece called the AB off a side street again not far from the harbour. Going thrugh from the West just make your waytoward s the entrance having called them up first ( cannot remember the VHF channel for the life of me).
I would call them before leaving the harbour as sometimes you have to wait an hour or more to transit. It only takes 15 mins to get to the entrance so you may as well wait in thw comfort of the harbour especially if its blowing a good westerly!
Should take about 90 mins from Athens but a lot depends on traffic.
Hope this is of some help ,asthey say its quite spectacliar!!.

Re: Corinth yacht harbour

If there is no space on the finger pontoons dont tie up to the concrete wall opposite. There is not as much depth there as the pilot books would have you believe and when a storm blows over the hills from the north the water level can drop leaving you bouncing off the bottom, pinned to that wall. The locals consider it to be a dangerous spot in a blow. Also there is a lot of ballast alongside the narrow entrance and any swell can make it quite tricky. Once in the canal it is beautifully calm, and there is a good anchorage just outside the east entrance. If you call up the canal when you are approaching they will give you directions.

For the case that you do not have place in Yacht harbour try to call Commercial harbour office, as I did, and with their approval you can berth alongside in the port.
