Hi there, I have a Besenzoni Passarelles and really paranoid about losing the remote control fob. I've looked on Google to see if there is an easy way to get hold off a spare, but was wondering if anyone has ever tried to use a universal remote (similar to the living room types) where you can use the learn function to copy the IR code? Would be great to hear from any forum member that has successfully done this. Many thanks

It should be possible, You can buy "learning" remote controls on the high street

they're keeloq or similar (to prevent anyone being able to drive your passerelle) - an ir learning remote won't do it. you may get lucky if you find which chipset they're using for the rolling code and getting a generic that uses the same (and then going through the procedure to make the controller learn the new remote).

This is the one, I found it online: http://www.laltraranda.it/sites/default/files/images/BESENZONI_Apprendimento_trasmett_7CS99004.pdf

I guess I would need to take it apart to determine the chipset?

I would be very surprised if they use keeloq on IR, after all you need line of sight to operate the thing. Its not like you could use a grabber unless you have the original IR transmitter in your hands pointing at the grabber whilst you operate the original.

I have no doubt though that the remote will use an ID code to make every transmitter unique (almost).
I would try the learning receiver first, else a decent electronics engineer should easily be able to replicate it for you.
That is of course on the proviso that it is indeed not Keeloq, in which case you will have to quote your serial number and buy one from the manufacturer, ouch!!

Edit: Are you 100% positive it is IR ?
Because this system on Ebay is definitely RF
