Hi
Has anyone got a copy of a workshop manual for a Ford 2722e (D series). I have found manuals for other models but this is the model I need. If you have it in pdf format and are willing to share that would be great news. I am about to take engine out of boat and service. Had an issue where the oil filter ruptured and spewed all oil into bilge (oil gauge not fitted at the time). Replaced oil filter and re-filled with oil but engine would not start, had injection pump reconditioned & replaced, replaced lift pump, still will not start, its trying but just not getting there :(. I think timing is out, so engine is coming out because very difficult to work on in situ.

Any help appreciated.

Does the engine turn over ??

Unless she seized up due to lack of oil I can't see why what has happened would cause such a problem.

engine turns over but will not fire, Checked fuel being pumped through injection pump tubes, yes fuel being pumped ok. Reason why I think timing is out because guy who took injection pump off marked TDC but when pump had been reconed it was shot/sandblasted and mark has disappeared. So mechanic put pump back on as came back.

Well before going to the point of removing the engine I would sort out the injector pump
problems first.

Are you able to turn the engine by hand ?

also
When the guy that reconditioned the injection pump had taken it apart he said there were a few internal parts broke and he would replace them. After I had the pump back I noticed that it was getting really hot whe turning ignition key to left is there a cold start in the pump ??
The recon cost £500 :(

Yes you can turn the engine by hand with a big spanner/socket on the crank nut
It sounds like you will have to sort out the pump timiong to get her to run
If the pump is even a couple of nothces out it won't fire

If you are able to turn by hand then by removing No1 injector you may be able to roughly work out the position of TDC. I would remove all injectors though just to make sure you had no compression in any of the pots. Good luck and let us know how you get on and how you overcome your problems. May just need the experience some day.

Send me your address and I'll post one to you

There are only slight differences and you can probably work with this manual, send me your address and I'll do the same for you.

Tom

Thank you very much indeed. Address on its way in PM. Can I send cost of postage or make a contribution to RNLI ?

Thanks again

Mind yor pinkys !!

I was called once to a Dyno test room by a very shaken operator who was doing the tappets on one of those, he turned it over and it fired up ! As I pointed out it was his fault for not putting the stop control over, and anyway a real man would have held it ! I made a hasty retreat. Timing marks are on the flywheel, 20 deg end of spill if I remember right.

Years since I worked on one but from what I remember
(a) tunr engine over until TDC mark appears in hole on top of flywheel, turn engine backwards - yes back - until another mark appears - either 18 or 20 deg

(b) Remove fuel pump, at the back of fuel pump bell housing there is a threaded plug, remove this and turn drive wheel until you can find a hole in it push a bolt - or similar - in the hole, the pump is now locked in its firing position OR 180 degs out

(c) remove timing gear cover on front of engine and wipe the faces of all the gears, keep turning engine until they all line up - you may have to turn it quite a few times - push fuel pump back in and bolt it to block.

Once/if engine starts, slightly move the fuel pump in either direction (which is why the mounting holes are oval) until the engine rune best. -
And that's al!
