Have had Copper cote on my boat for about 3 years now . Based in Med but twice a year have had to remove barnacles and coral growths . Summer sea temperature 28 degrees. Seem to get bulk of growth in shady areas ie between hulls Any comments

Takes me about 2 /3 hours with snorkel and paint scraper to remove

Must be killing something because I get slime but barnacles and coral seem to persist probaly due to building up protective layer of carbonate . So what should I do . paint over it with traditional antifoulant yearly ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

G'day Catmandoo,

Your not alone, Coppercoat seems to work better in cold climates / water. We tried here in central Queensland (OZ) and ended up grinding it all off.

Avagoodweekend........

Interseting,I'm about to use this stuff here in the Uk. Friend has it on his boat and has worked OK, this is the second boat he has applied it to. So now the question is, anyone else out there using it in the UK waters, whats your view?

I have copper coat apparently its different from copper cote, but I have no way of knowing. Nevertheless, it’s been on for two seasons now and all I get is some thin weedy stuff around the water line that comes off very easily.

Talking to the manufacturers how well it works depends totally, on how it is applied; if you get it wrong (they say) it’s not the end of the world you activate the copper by abrading the coating (thus exposing the copper that was covered by resin because it wasn’t mixed properly on application).

The test they say is, “does the copper coat above the water line turn green?” if yes then its working if no then it isn’t.

Presently mine is working (according to that criteria) so I am leaving it alone. The boat will be hauled out for a new anode, prop and keel cooler next month so I will get a better idea of what’s going on then.

Sorry mine is actually Coppercoat . It is green above water line. Manufacturer hovever told me following

1 must not get wet when applied and could get stay damp in shady areas such as between hulls
2 not so good in brackish water . 2 places I have kept boat have been flushed by rivers

Perhaps I should give it a rough scrub .

Anybody got any other info feedback???
