That was original plan

Got blisters and areas where gel shield underneath losing adhesion .Looking at coppercoat shards white on back not green .In some areas can stick a knife under copper coat From outside hull currently has grey /white patches where coating has come off also areas underneath it with varying low to high moisture content . Problem is areas still unblistered and liable to come off later .

Could be water between Gel shield and |Copper coat . Might be better to remove the lot and start again before applying expensive antifoul .Coppercoat been on for nearly 7 years

aha i see the problem, sounds like gel peel/strip the only answer, its tough stuff and fairly thick, might be worth talking to one of the copper coat tpye supplers see if they have any ideas,i sand blasted my hull very lightly before application,it might be possible to do the same but its messy and has to be done with extreme care

G'day Catmandoo

If peeled blasted or ground off some filling and fairing will be required prior to application of whatever you select and some hull fitting may have to be removed and refitted. Not a small task.

If you are planning to do the work yourself you can hire a peeler and risk minor damage till you get the hang of it, Hiring a blaster would not be a good idea judging by some of the attempts I've seen. Grinding is good from a control point but very dirty and not easy work; I have completed stripping a 30 footer in a 7 hour day using a 4.5 inch grinder fitted with a concrete grinding wheel, the wheel does not clog and after the job was finished it had only worn about 20%.

Fairing is made easy with an old straight backed hand saw (teeth ground off and replaced with notches 3mm deep and 50mm apart) held at an angle and pulled to take on the shape of the hull, it works a treat.

Please keep us informed on how you go about removing the old coating and your findings.

Yes

Grit blasting worked well and as I had osmosis it removed the gel coat as well. The blaster was however able to control what was removed and could have just removed the coppercoat. Worth talking to a blaster to see what he thinks he can do.
