copper tingle repair to clinker boat information -please

I have a mysterious leak close to waterline which I hope to repair with a copper tingle.
I am afloat on the Mediterranean in the South of France and it is unlikely that i can get any suitable copper sheet here! Therefore,can anyone recommend a internet source or a u.k. supplier so that i can get some sent out.Also can someone advise if I could apply the copper sheet onto a bed of sikaflex 291 or is there a better way?
As to the leak itself,I have noticed some filamentous calcium type deposits on the lands.Could this be Teredo or other ship worm?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you get hold of an old copper heating tank from a scrap yard ? If you cut to the size you require, than heat it up and quench it, it will be nice and clean for use as a tingle.

I think the French have discovered copper.

Ask for "tôle de cuivre" in a hardware or other suitable shop, preferably on an industrial estate

Or Google "tôle de cuivre"

There is a place HERE which sells small sheets, but only up to 1mm thick (it's in Belgium and there's a 'phone number on the site also)

Um,not often heard southern france described as if it were such a distant deserted zone. Most of the world's really big boats are there, as are many of the uk-built classics of yesteryear. You will defintey find anything and everything for a boat, easily including sheeets of copper. French hardware shops are a country mile ahead of uk in terms of number of stock lines, so even an average castorama may well have sheets of copper. Hardware shop is "Quincaillerie" (i think) or brandwise look for castorama. Inland from Cannes-Mandlieu, bicyclable from la napoule is Balletrand, another possible vendor of such stuff.

The "filamentous calcium-type deposits" would have me concerned. I think that this needs to be investigated fairly thoroughly before being covered with anything. The 'filaments' may be fungal in origin, or they may indicate alkaline degradation of the wood due to electrolytic degradation of a nearby metallic fitting or fastening. Either of these has the potential to get significantly worse if left unchecked. If the intended tingle is only small, you might get away with a sheet of plumber's lead flashing, especially if you can beat it a little thinner without creating a hole in it. You will still need copper rivets to fasten the tingle to the planking.

you can buy sheets of copper everywhere! Just call a plumber if the first dosent have it he will redirect you then ask for a piece a bit bigger than you need,then go to a builders merchants and ask for a roll or tar for the roof!Weldon has it in stock for example as well as copper in some outlets.

Cut piece of tar put over hole walming with heat gun and nail copper patch over it with copper nails!

Cant find tar, the ask for window putty, comes in palstic "tubes" apply putty (if dry add a bit of linseed oilo) then put copper patch over and nail on,copper nails go through the copper with ease.


DONT use sikaflex orother expensive things as they arnt as good as putty or tar!

I caught worm in the bay by porto azzuro i put on a tingle and left it but first i used a heat gun to heat scorch the area and along the planks without scorching for 40 cms either side of the intrusion i cut out the bad part where the wood comes away. Normaly that will do untill you can come out for a week or so and change the planks.

By useing the heat gun i killed all the worm,if the worms been there for more than a two months perhaps they have gone further but from what ive seen worm treated within 3 months with a heat gun then coverd with a putty tingle will last for as long as you want!
