Having struggled to remove the bolts securing the mixing elbow on a Yanmar 2GM, even after liberal application of Plus Gas release agent, would it be a good idea to apply Coppaslip grease to the new replacement bolts make future removal easier?

I foolishly asked for advice and was told that adding a third metal to the already mixed metals of bolt and engine would be a bad idea. I’m not yet convinced but can be persuaded if this is indeed the case. What would you advise please?

I went for Duralac on ours (stainless elbow, 8.8 bolts, aluminium heat exchanger). Not sure it’s right or not?! Just wanted to put something on.

Sure a thin smear of copper grease couldn’t do that much harm?!

Coppaslip is the best thing for exhaust manifold nuts studs and smeared on gaskets. Everything comes apart woth no problems.
It is available from Halfords in expensive wee tubes.

I rarely put any studs, nuts or bolts back in without a smear of Coppaslip, because I know I might have to take them out again one day.

Thanks all. Much appreciated, especially as your responses are so consistent. I look forward to applying Copaslip (spelling corrected) and checking bolt health annually.

Another place I use it is on injector bodies. Surprising how easy to remove them .

I have used copaslip for years , and never had any problems, . We used it for all high temp applications I.e exhaust bolts ,injectors etc . This is from an ex Chief engineer with a few years experience .

Well some lads from Cornwall learnt about it from me when we played with the Ruston AO engines. Yes at sea with medium speed engines it was a great time saver when three heads three pistons and three liners had to be swapped out without delay mid Pacific. Seized nuts and bolts become a thing of the past.
