Copies or originals

I met someone in Ramsgate who was fined in France for having a photocopy of SSR, rather than the original. I believe Spanish marinas do not accept copies.

The French insist on originals of the Reg papers. I've never been a asked for proof of VAT until we sold the boat last month to a Frenchman who needed to re-register it in France. What I did was to have a briefcase (freebie soft case from PBO years ago!) with all the documents in for overseas travel even those not really needed, my list included Passports, Part 1 Reg, VAT proof, Insurance, Radio licence, Radio Operators licences, Liferaft Cert, ICC etc. This case only went on board when were were intending leaving the country and copies of everything were kept at home and scanned into the laptop also. I had folders inside the case to keep the essential from the less so, that way when asked I could easily just show what was asked for and nothing more.

Options:

1. High quality scan, print and laminate and it would be difficult to tell the difference.
2. Have a photocopy certified as a true copy of the original (I've had MCA do this for me; only doc they wouldn't certify was my green part 1 registration) - so I used option 1 ;-)

In Spain and France at all marinas you will require the original registration - a copy will not do.

Never been asked for anything other than registration except once each year when renewing my yearly berth in my home marina where I have to present some evidence of third party insurance cover.
