We need to replace our 45cm 2 burner oven/grill/2 burner cooker.

We have seen two that we like, the Dometic Starlight and the Techmipex Mastergrill:

Does anyone have any experience of either the Dometic or the Techmipix brands. How reliable are they and how easy is it to get hold of spares?

Many thanks
Fiona

Can't comment on Dometic - they are new to the market. Have just consigned a Techimpex to the dump - could not even get a bid for it at the club auction. Not a good buy - poorly made and in the UK spares very difficult and expensive when you can get them.

There are plenty of very good cookers on the market from better and more established manufacturers. I replaced the Techimpex with a Plastimo, mainly because it was half the price of the other cookers that would fit the space. If there had been space (greater height) I would have fitted a Nelson. I looked at just about every cooker on the market and find it difficult to justify the difference in price between Plastimo/Nelson (both UK made) and the others.

Had a Techimpex on the last boat. A heap of junk! Fitted a spinflo nelson last year great bit of kit. Well made and the oven works properly. Would recommend.

Agreed. Good value for money as well, compared to what else is on the market.

Well to go against the grain, sort of..... We have a Techimpex and have had no problems whatsoever.
Would I buy one again?
ONLY if it had a grill above too...my huge mistake on not having one. Shepherds Pie and Apple Crumble just not the same:(

We have a 16 year old Techimpex cooker that is on it's last legs. Ideally I wold like a Force 10 European sub compact but £1800....ouch!

My friend (with OCD) replaced a Techimpex cooker around 2004 vintage with another new one last year because he wanted a grill and the handle was slightly tarnished.

It was a complete piece of junk, sharp edges everywhere, ill fitting trays and when used bent out of shape so the door didn't open properly.

He refitted the old one and had a terrible time getting his money back. They obviously make them somewhere else now.

We bought a Force 10 new for our last boat and after 10 years it was excellent when we sold the boat despite lots of use.. Friends bought a Techimpex same time and have had to do various bodges to keep it going and have recently junked it. We have a propane 2 year old Force 10 on our new boat in the USA but in North American 3 burner size, so woopee on two counts, not electric (it is a mobo that originally had electric) and it is a Force 10. They are cheaper in the USA, but I doubt the Euro size is around, worth a look and a phone call to West Marine USA who might order one for you.

Dometic is a big player in the leisure market and makes a lot of caravan stuff. Some good some bad. We had a Dometic hob and oven in our last caravan, the hob was great, the oven was ****, barely ever got hot enough to do a Fray Bentos pie. The top of the range ones though were supposed to be better. We got round the duff oven by getting a halogen one, not a good solution for a boat though. I would say if you go Dometic you need to cook with the model you choose before you buy it.

They now own Waeco.
