Conwy: \"Orion\", \"Hwyl Dda\", RNLB 14-01, \"Speed boaty thing\" pictures

If any of you are reading this, you are welcome to the originals. If anyone knows where "RNLB Earl and Countess Mountbatten of Burma" is currently stationed, I'll email them to see if they want the pics (I have several) I don't think it's one of the local stations. Wish I'd got my camera out in time to get a photo of the big red wooden-hulled yacht that was going like stink (too fast to catch the name /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif).

Please let me know (gently) if this sort of thing is frowned upon.

Andy

Great pictures!
Why would this be frowned upon?

Thanks /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

In some groups / forums(?) some people have gripes about "bandwidth" - never seen any signs of it here though, but I thought I better play safe /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think your lifeboat is a relief one, used while the regular one gets a refurb.

As for the pics, you won't get many gripes for posting them unless they are too big for the page, or the file size is so large it takes ages to download. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Nice pics, seen Orion and Hywl Dda About. Don,t recognise the Speedy boat thing.
Perhaps it comes on a traler now and again.
Don,t want to see the Lifeboat unless I need it!
Know it,s not a "Where is it" but is that Puffin behind Hywl Dda?

Hywl Dda (The Good) if anyone is interested!
Was a 1st century ruler of part of Wales who introduced the first uniform legal system to the Country.
In 925 AD He went on a Pilgrimage to Rome and nicked some of the old eyties ideas!
Anyway He must have crossed the Channel without GPS etc! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Dont know where it was going to but the lifeboat came out of the mersey on Saturday. Either from the manchester ship canal or cammel laird wet basin.

Nope, the back of the Great Orme between the old lighthouse and the Gogarth Abbey Hotel. I was taking my 10 year old son and his friend for a "trip round the bay" and to try a spot of fishing. We headed for the end of the Orme, and they insisted I stopped sailing while they fished. The motion of the boat when we stopped had my son's friend heaving over the side in a matter of minutes, and the shine went off the fishing for both of them. Still nothing caught from the boat /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Thanks for your explanation of "Hywl Dda", but the boat is "Hwyl Dda", which I think means "to perform well" or "in good form", but is also a sort of pun on "good sail" - or am I missing something? Both Hwyl Dda and Orion are moored in the river at Conwy.

I didn't see where the lifeboat went, but it could have gone into Conwy marina - I know they pick them up by road from there.

Cheers.

I reasonably sure that 14-01 spent most of the summer moored next door to Ramsgates Trent boat (02) - she's gone now but to see two identical boats lying side by side was unusual, especially as both were working.

Pillock I am. Didn,t read the script properly!
Now I,ve had a glass or two things become clearer.
Hwyl= "goodnight or goodbye" and Dda combined, sort of in English.
Not a bad name for a Yacht, especially if your racing!
Still nice pics. "Great Orme"---"Crap Guess"--- need to see a hoptition!

Pity there was nothing caught by rod and line.
Thanks for not posting pics of your son,s mate throwing CHUNDER! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Hwyl!
Classic Welsh spelling mistake.
It,s like "I before E, except after C "in English!
Noss Da! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Wonderful pictures. If you have not heard already Hwyl Dda was completed in Barmouth and I bought her in 1994 and brought her to Conwy. Whilst she has a wonderful name in Welsh it was nbo good to a yorkshireman so we changed her to "Lindy Lou". At that time the spray hood etc were blue. We sailed her until 1998 in Conwy going to Scotland and Ireland with her. She sold to Pwllheli for a while. The Tony Edmunds, who is a member at CYC bought her and restored the name. Tony had raced Hunter Sonatas when younger and has been successful racing this loverly boat.

I will let Tony know about the photos

I thought the relief lifeboat for that region was an older type (severn class maybe?). It was parked in the Marina in Conwy in August.
