Firstly, why did the marina chose a Friday, Saturday & Sunday (presumeably the busiest days) to get divers looking at the gate?
Secondly, if the divers were only available on those three days, or those days were the best for observing the gate, why not better publicity of the limited gate opening times than one small notice on the ground floor door to the offices? Do the marina staff not realise that not everybody visits the offices or toilets before going down to their boat? Why not plaster the notices all over the place (on the electronic gate leading to the pontoons & similar places, etc)? Surely that would have stopped not not just myself, but other boaters as well, from firing up only to find that they either couldn't get out when they wanted, or were being forced to stay out for 2 hours, even if they didn't want to be out that long.

Hi Lawsy,
Yes the timing was odd but the Marina did notify us of the plans earlier in the week.
If you register with the office you will get regular updates on the work and the restrictions by email.
They also email the gate times and the weather forecast every Monday and Friday.
This weekends times were notified as business as usual for the first and last 30 minutes of the normal expected gate operation and a 30 minute window in the middle of each tide for access.
Apparently slackish water was needed for whatever they were doing this weekend.

Thanks for that, I'll know for the future. Still doesn't explain why the place was plastered with notices (by comparison) for the berth holders association annual dinner, but I only saw (when it was too late) one A4 piece of paper in a window 30 yards from where my car-park / pontoon walking route would take me.

You're quite right, not everyone has internet access, they should have made it more obvious if only for safety reasons. Mind you, it was nice there Saturday!
We spoke to a few people there on Sat and they didn't seem to know anything about it.
A cynical person would say the dinner/dance brings in revenue!

coming in from the sea, we didn't see any notices. Had to wait to go out yesterday, and after mooring to a pontoon in conway just for the night (some wtat banging on the boat this am, to wake us up. urrm thanks wtat) & short wait to get back in. going home its less hassle.

i knew nothing about it, till next door told me, would have been quite easy to have just gone out and mow the divers down. There was also a sign ssaying STOP DIVERS, But I only ever saw it from the shore, never from the sea. It was facing towards the dammed office!
