So we are still trying to upgrade our outboard . One reason for this is the poor fuel capacity . We need to refuel from a jerry can every couple of miles. Our 3.5 he mercury has no facility to connect an external tank . However can this be done ? Obviously you would need an external tank, a hose and bulb, then a cut off valve and a couple of hose clips to connect the hose direct to the engine .
Or have I got this arse ended?
I obviously don't want to end up with no outboard because I've ruined it, or worse on fire .
Cheers

Should be easy enough done, my only concern would be if the fuel pump isn't designed to work that hard it may not be up I pulling it from the tank or not last long

Think you will find it is more than that and there is not a facility to use an external tank on that model. The integral tank is gravity feed and a remote tank needs a pump.

oscarpop------think i read that seagull (the outboard engine not the bird)--- racers use some sort of hand pumped remote tank to keep normal tank topped up----ask at savingoldseagulls forum

Well said Lenten. a "T" piece and isolator taps (when not in use) in the fuel line between the existing tank and the carb will allow attachment of a hose from a larger tank with a priming bulb. Simply give it a squeeze or two every so often to keep the tank topped up. Otherwise a pump could be added. This can be a diaphragm device driven by crankcase pressure change , but I'd keep it simple.

Is the engine 2 or 4 stroke. You can run a pulse pump off crankcase pressure. Easy enough to do.
