Like it says in the title really. Got a new stack pack, don’t want to waste the old one, and need a deployment bag for the HW jib on a removable inner forestay.

Seems like a no brainer but never having used a Hank on jib as a routine part of the sail setup, appreciate any suggestions.Easiest way is just chop of the end to length, leaving both ends open for water to flow through. From there, easy to stick on some Velcro to keep things tight. Obviously already eyes to affix to guardrails.

but given a still solid stack pack made from sunbrella, are there any adaptations you would make to make it the best deck bag it can be?

Yes if you want a long bag for your HW jib then old stack pack might be perfect. I would however question the desirability of using a long bag for the jib. Yes perfect once you get it on deck but perhaps not the easiest to stow below decks or lug up to deck.
All of my jibs live in bags. The jib is flaked (faked) with foot at bottom as I imagine your jib will sit in long bag. However I then roll the jib up with tack on the out side.
Thus you carry jib up on deck drop on deck tack forward and attach the tack. This will leave the bottom hank ready for the stay. You unroll as you work up the luff until you get to halyard attachment. Then unroll completely to attach sheets. I find it easiest method on a small deck in rough conditions.
Perhaps your HW jib is too big but I think you should consider this method. ol'will

Thanks Will. Yes, we do as you suggest for stowage below, But it is a heavy old thing and awkward to manhandle, which is why we do not use it as often as we should and often struggle on with part furled genny when we should really swap over. So the long bag would just be to keep it tidy and ready to go on deck when at sea rather than tying the loose sail to the rail.

There is a sailrite design

How to Make a Foredeck Sail Bag Kit

which I used to make just such a storm staysail bag , some years ago.
You might wish to peruse that and note any desirable features.
There was a drain hole at aft low corner , there was a front zip and Velcro flap such that it zipped up around the stay with the sail hanked on, inside the bag.
The sheets could be left rigged around the deck/Genoa secondary cars and tucked in with the sail. But it wasn’t long
There were a couple of short tabs too front and back with clips so that the bag could be clipped to a lifeline when removing it single handed, that sort of thing
It lived on deck at the shrouds and never seemed to get water sluicing through it.
Dunno if this offers you a helpful pointer or two.
