Can anyone tell me if it is a relatively easy job to convert a Jabesco manual toilet to electric /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

why do it? when we bought our boat it had two electric toilets: used lots of current and made lots of noise with a most unpleasant change of note as anything solid was macerated! In a marina everyone could hear what we were doing and eventually we had to run the engine to flush the loo! A little working of the pump handle exercises your drinking arm, which is usually why the heads are being used anyway! we took out ours and have never looked back! I accept that technology may have moved on and battery management systems are better but why not keep it simple!

Totally agree with Chubby. High current drain, very noisy and expensive. Also that knob on the top seems very flimsy.

Saw a very good electric pump at the Jabsco stand at LIBS. New design, low current consumption, and QUIET.

Easier to change the whole toilet. Tried convesion in the past, never worked properly and very noisy. Go for properly designed electric toilets. I now have two electric toilets initialy not cheap but they are reasonably quiet, very effective, power draw well within solar panel supply, no regrets.
Above all wife would never ever go back to manual - I actualy did something right.

If I were you, I WOULDNT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!!

I bought one 'cause SWMBO didnt like pumping, (didnt help that one of the seals had gone, so water squirted out of the top of the manual pump). Serviced the pump, but it was too late to change her perception.

Bought the electric conversion, discovered that most people would say DONT DO IT!!!, fitted it, and discover that THEY WERE RIGHT!!!.

I cant tell you how noisy the Jabsco electric conversion is... However noisy you are thinking.... it's twice as noisy.

It works fine, but I hardly ever use it, and Janet doesnt use it at night, (unless drink has been involved... I jump out of my skin, and the neighbours probably jump out of their skins).

Anyway.... I think that makes 6 of us that wish we hadnt done it... and there will be more.

Make swimbo happy and get her a proper electric toilet. Conversions are C***, but modern well designed electric toilets are good. However, they drain your wallet rather than your battery.

Has anyone got any ideas on a relatively cheap quietish electric toilet, I had an XM electric on my previous boat, and that was perfectly ok, not noisy, but not quiet either.
I have the same problem that the pump on my manual one is squirting unknown liquids everywhere, and need to make a decision to service it or replace for something better (hopefully).
I too saw some quiet ones at LIBS, but cant remember where.

Good help you if the crew gets the trots on the trots, flat batts and blocked pan, just to save a few pumps by hand. No never on my boat I'm thinking of ripping out the Jabsco water pump and sticking in a foot, so that her below decks wont empty the tank 10 mins from the pier.

Servicing is easy, ('ish). I think the kit was about £27. The pump was solid with Limescale, so soaked it in a brand of 10% Limescale remover in a saucepan for a few days... then chipped it off.

refitted, no more squirts.... but it didnt satisfy SWMBO.

I'm pretty sure the unknown liquid is fresh seawater from the intake, so nothing from the pan in it.

I've kept the freshly serviced manual pump, so that it can replace the electric if ever necessary.

Cheers

Richard
