I have a motor cruiser with twin Ford diesels.I am looking for advice on a couple of mods to make passages more convenient.
1.Is it possible to get easy to fit fuel tank gauges the do not involve cutting or emptying my tanks?
2.Is there any problems with trying to fit remote fresh water header tanks to enable me to keep an eye on levels without lifting the engine plates?
Thank you in advance for any advice.

I believe you can get sensors that would fit on the outside of the tank as used in Process Control in Industrial situations but you will be talking a LOT of money! See the RS catalogue for more info.
I don't see any alternative to cutting a hole anf fitting either a standard electric type or a purely mechanical gauge. See www.tek-tanks.comm for more info.
This would be a nice winter project - try and run one tank as empty as possible or pump into the 2nd tank and then do them in turn.
good luck.

I'd rather be sailing... :)

There are of course various solutions that can be "tee-ed" off the main diesel feed pipe (assuming you have a gravity feed); like a sight gauge. One company also makes a very posh solution based on pressure sensors - but it's expensive.

I know for my mermaids, you can get a levelindicator for the header tanks, but I wouldn't do that, just keep an eye on my temp gauges and have an audible overtemp alarm anyway.
