Just bought a Contessa 28 and the chart table is a slidey-out affair that nestles above the quarter berth... well it would be if someone hadn't ripped it off the runners! Added to this, the table seems to have expanded because it sure as heck doesn't want to go back on there!!! If anyone out there has a Contessa 28 could you possibly let me know if this is/was a good system for the chart table or should I consider fitting something else seeing as I'm going to have to spend some time fixing the thing! Any ideas on this wayward chart table would be appreciated!

Cheers! Fi

I sailed Contessa 28 when they were new (how long ago?) and remember the surprise when we found the chart table. The fold away table is fine if you only plan to use it in port or on nice days. Yours probably got ripped off on a bad day with a well built nav'.

I The system seems to work OK on my friends C28 and it certainly slides in/out OK, albeit a bit heavy.

We have a Contessa 28 and had to sort out the chart table when we bought it - worth the effort as it now works well! We went to Jeremy Rogers in Lymington and bought a spare (but original) chart table for the boat that he had lying around in his workshop. We then gave a metal fabricator in Emsworth the original dimensions for the runners and he replicated them for us. Then we fitted the runners, slotted the chart table in and all works well provided no-one is too heavy handed! A silicone spray to keep the runners well oiled is worthwhile. Good luck! If we can help more, let us know.

Thanks for that!

Hattie, we're going to spend next week pottering about on the boat while she's on the hard and having odd other bits done so we'll be trying to sort it out then! The chart table itself is in pretty good nick but I may come back to you if we can't remedy it after then!

Cheers! Fi

I hope you had a good survey done. I looked at Ayana in Scotland 2 years ago, I presume she's the same boat as it isn't a common name. She had been left on the hard standing at Kip for a few years apparently, and the owner was asking a lot of money for her. We didn't even bother going below, she was under about 2 foot of water inside and we hadn't got our wellies.

The boatyard staff used to pump her out every 6 months or so. I'm glad she's gone to a good home where she will be looked after.

Hope you get the chart table sorted, it's a really nice feature.

regards

Ours had lost the runners way before we bought her and the chart table simply hinged at the back.

A couple of wooden blocks fitted to the internal moulding, and a pin inserted which fitted into the side of the chart table about 2 inches from the back. There was a small bolt to hold it 'up' so you could use the berth.

This meant that it never laid completely flat, but it worked fine nevertheless.
