I don't want to use this post to actually advertise myself (in case it's frowned upon), but because I am available at short notice, have some experience (DaySkip) and would love to sail in the Outer West, I thought I might be of some use to someone with a boat who can't do as much as they would like for want of able crew, so ideas on how to reach those people would be much appreciated.
I'm aware of CrewSeeker, CrewFinder etc., but thought something more localised or focused in the area might exist? Thanks for any suggestions.

Timlamb, Why dont you start by, filling out more details in your profile so we know who we are addressing?
Have you ever sailed to Barra?
Regards, Eamonn.

Tim, don't feel you have to put more detail into your profile than you're happy with. Some around here, myself included, believe that it's best to be like dad, and keep mum, web-wise. (There was frightening demo done in another forum some time ago, in which one forumite challenged another's allegation that it was easy to find out personal details from the various information he could trace legitimately on the net - the challenger was horrified when, about thirty minutes later an aerial photograph of his house appeared...)

On a more positive note, try asking your local sailing clubs if they have notice boards you could peruse or put a note on, do try Crewseekers if you don't mind shelling out, and certainly get an ad onto sbc's crewing opportunities forum here - find it in the main index.

There are many chentleman sailors here, I'm sure you'll find some great opportunities.

Final word of advice: Never, ever, go out on someone's boat unless you're absolutely satisfied that the sailing will be done safely, the boat is adequately equipped, and the other crew (and especially the skipper) are competent. You may also want to ponder whether you'll sail with folk who drink whilst on passage.

I've performed or been involved in most of these obtaining personal info from bios on these forums. Putting in basic information is fine, but the challenges were just to show how much information you can obtain, and to explain why some people prefer not to provide much info, rather than to scare people off filling in any bio info.

Most clubs have a noticeboard on which available crew can "advertise". I think most are afilliated to the RYA who may have a list of Hon Secys that you could contact, depending on where you want to cruise. Worth remembering that you may not disembark where you got on, so a bus pass is probably more use than a sextant...

Hi Tim.
Sorry for sounding unwelcoming in my last reply to your post,
dident mean any annamosity towards you, even though some folk seem to think so.
All I was meaning was your first name would have been easier to address.
As for sailing in Scotland good luck with the search.
Cheers, Eamonn.
