I am planning to sort out my mast electrical terminals under the deck. At the moment its choc block type connectors. My plan is to crimp the cables with ring terminals and then jojn the two ends on an appropriate studded terminal strip (whatever its called).

My problem is that I don't know the correct name for a strip of posts with nuts (a YBW Forum :))

I found this on the RS Catalog site: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/barrier-strips/0423330/ Is this what is used to screw ring terminals together? Are there alternatives?

Connector strip

Yes the "Barrier Strip" in the link is what you need. Just make sure the space on the screw is big enough for the ring terminals. Often for distribution especially for negative a large group of the screws are connected together on one side to allow for a large number of terminals spread over several screws.
You might want a cover of some sort to stop any metal falling on the terminals. good luck olewill

Thanks for the information. There are strips available with lids as well on ebay.

I made my own connection strips by using copper/brass or HDPE strips. I then drilled and tapped the strips either M4 or M8 and fitted brass set screws into the brass or plastic strip. I then mounted the strips inside slotted trunking to protect then from shorting.

This allows for several ring terminals on each screw where common connections are needed.

I think these http://uk.rs-online.com/web/c/connectors/terminals-splices/crimp-spade-connectors/ are more suitable for that barrier strip (as opposed to ring crimp terminals).

If you just want to make/break cables easily, I would use these http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/crimp-quick-disconnect-terminals/2455418/ with these http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/crimp-quick-disconnect-terminals/0842220/.

adhesive lined heatshrink is useful if you want to make the joint waterproof http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/heat-shrink-cold-shrink-sleeves/3440625/

likely available in halfords (in lower quanties too) I'd imagine.

Busbars common all the connections, not what you want I imagine. They are generally used for commoning up dozens of negative feeds.

Terminal blocks allow multiple, separate connections.

Or I tend to use power posts for positive feeds
