The nasa clipper wireless wind. It runs on an NMEA0183 protocol. dos anyone know if is it possible to connect to a autohelm tridata ST50 Plus speed and depth meter to get the true wind?

You could connect it, but i'd be absolutely amazed if the ST50 could display true wind. What does the ST50 manual say ?

I don't think the ST50+ Tridata has a true wind display facility, although the ST50+ Multi does, I believe. Regardless, the ST50+ instruments work on the VWR sentence, but the Nasa Clipper transmits the MWV sentence, so I guess it's not compatible.

You may have just answered another query for me. I have been trying to get my Vyacht Wifi to retransmit my B&G wind data. I can see pulses coming out of the b&g but the V doesn't seem to recognise them.

The vYacht doesn't deal with water temp either. It also cannot deal with N2K AIS.

I want it the other way. I want to use the speed from the ST50 to be read by the clipper so it can give the true wind on the clipper display

The Clipper display surely has no ability to display true wind.

Think you're right.

A quick grovel through the Clipper page shows that they have one wind display that does do true wind (called the "Tactical"), and one that does not. They then offer various combinations of senders and displays to form "systems" - it appears that the wireless sender presents as a receiver box emitting NMEA, the receiver is not built into the display. For wireless true wind you'd need the wireless sender and the "Tactical" display, but this isn't a combination they offer on their site. Maybe (if he doesn't already have the kit) they would sell this to the OP direct if he asked? They are reputed to be helpful on the phone when their stuff goes wrong...
