Connecting Silva Radio to Garmin chart plotter

Having a good day on the boat and I now have a working chart plotter. But I cannot get the VHF and plotter to talk it each other..

Plotter is a Garmin 451S, VHF is a Silva S10

Garmin has wires .. Black nmea ground; blue NMEA 0183 port 1 tx out; brown NMEA 0183 port 1 Rx in; grey and violet per blue and brown but port 2.

VHF has wires .. Black gps ground; red GPS +.

There is also a choice of settings in the Garmin for data type .. Garmin, nmea etc

I've searched through the manuals for both and am no wiser on which wires to connect. Any help gratefully received!

Black to black. Red to Blue. (Plotter is Tx or sending - VHF can only listen so Red GPS+ has to be input)

Settings - NMEA.

A good starting point.

It could take a minute for the VHF to start displaying lat and long... or even a reboot.

Have you checked the Port settings for comms speed ?

Needs to be set to 'NMEA standard' - details on Page 51 here ...
