Note:1. In Port, House Battery Bank is completely separate electrically (ie for charging) from the engine battery. (Don't count the emergency "Parallel momentary switch" for purposes of this post).
2. I am obsessed with Single Point of Failure so get twitchy if things are not at least duplicated.

My trusty Charles 60Amp Charger is kept on all the time in port and has done a good job in looking after the 4 AGM house batteries, renewed only after 10 years' use.

Am thinking that the Charles charger is near the end of its days. So have purchased a Sterling UltraCharge 60Amp charger and it works fine, using just one output for charging the House battery bank, exactly as the Charles one did.

To change from one charger to the other I would need to turn off the 240v supply, reconnect the house battery bank '+' and '-' terminals to the new charger's output, and switch on the "new" charger's 240v input.

So far so good. I think.

I was wondering if it is safe and acceptable practice to connect both chargers' 12volt outputs together, and switch over the mains inputs in case of charger failure. Is this OK? Will it harm either charger? Will having the resistance of the second charger connected it confuse the "live" charger as to what charging stage it should be at? Is it safe to do this?

Reason for asking is that I use GSM text switches for monitoring and if needed, for switching off mains appliances, so could change chargers remotely by having a GSM remote switch on each charger.

Thanks
