My vhf Navman doesn't receive any information from my gps garmin handheld 72.

The gps is configured for the navman : nmea 4800 bauds

I connected the data cables from the gps data in and out with the GPS + and gps - cable from the vhf. Since this gave no results i switched the cables still no result then i tried to connect only the data out from the gps with the gps + cable from the vhf no results either. Then i connected data out from gps with gps - from the vhf, i repeated the same procedure with the data in from the gps ... no results.

So i tried every way of connecting the data cables from the gps with the data cable of the vhf. According to the information i have the VHF and the gps are able to communicate with each other.

Has anyone an idea what's wrong here

many thanks

Thomas

If your Garmin 72 has a similar imenu for setting up the interface as my Garmin 128 GPS, try checking:

1) Interface is set to NMEA/NMEA (and not NONE or GRMN for example)
2) It is set to NMEA 0183 v2.0 (or later)
3) 4800 BAUD should be OK

I would expect the electrical connections to be:
GPS DATA OUT to the radio GPS (+) input.
GPS 0V (battery negative) to radio GPS (-) input.
GPS DATA IN, no connection

ie. there should be 2 wires connecting the GPS to the radio

If none of these solve the problem, PM me.
