I want to be able to receive position data from my Garmin 152 and send it to my ICOM M323 VHF radio. I'm confused over the NMEA language that the two devices use. I can't and probably never will figure out the meanings and differences between the NMEA/Listener/Talker language set. My level of competence is limited to joining wire a to wire b.

I've attached some diagrams. Can anyone tell me which wire to wire connections I should make?

Pins 2 and 3 on the Garmin (Talker) are connected to connection 5 on the Icom (listener) . If this is a two pole plug then pin 3 on the Garmin goes to the tip of the plug at the Icom end and Pin 2 on the Garmin goes to the body of the plug on the Icom. If this doesn't work then may have to connect Pin 2 of the Garmin to the Icom power negative but lets wait and see.

Thanks for your response Bilgediver. However the ICOM has two Listener Connections: Listener A (Data-H) which is Yellow and Listener B (Data-L) which is Green. I don't have any plugs at the end of either unit, just bare wires. I've copied as better ICOM diagram. Sorry for any previous confusion. Can you tell me which coloured wires on the Garmin go to which on the ICOM please? (Yes, I AM that thick ...).
Thanks again.

Garmin has a Blue and Black wire, The black on the Garmin may also be the negative power supply to the Garmin. The Blue wire has to be connected to the Number 5 Wire on the Icom . Your picture does not show if this is a single wire tail or a socket with two connections .The black wire on the Garmin must be linked to the negative of the radio . This can be the negative black power wire or a ground connection on wire 5 if there is one provided.

Does this help at your end?
