I have a Quark QK-AO26 AIS Receiver which provides Ais targets wirelessly to my iPad. I have now acquired a Garmin Echomap UHD2 75sv which I would like to connect to the Quark with a cable. I have a Garmin NMEA 2000 Backbone/Drop cable. One end fits the plotter. Can I simply cut the plug off the other end, bare the wires and connect the appropriate wires to the NMEA out +/- terminals on the Quark? If so, which are likely to be the correct colours of the wires - I think there must be 4 or 5? I suspect I’m being simplistic here……

I’ve tried the Garmin and Quark websites and manuals without any luck. Any help appreciated!

No, you cannot do that. Your AIS only outputs NMEA 0183 and the Echomap only supports NMEA 2000. The two are not compatible. To be able to use the two devices together you would need to install an NMEA 2000 network and fit a NMEA 0183 to NMEA 2000 converter.
