Time to own up, what is the worst thing you have left on the boat or forgotten to do before leaving ?

We left a loaf of bread 5 weeks ago that I managed to forget a second time , at the weekend I checked it and it was fine ( I didnt try it but no sign of mould, the swans ate it ).

Also left a Bunch of bananas last year in August for 3 weeks, still edible when we found them, a few black spots but not too bad.

Any systems for remembering what not to forget ?
 
I try and go through a mental check list seacock off, water off, power off etc etc . Doesnt allways work as I have done same as you with various food products but worst was getting about a third of the way home before realising me moby was onboard D'oh.....

I have a system, I run a mental list in my mind of all the things I must not forget regarding the boat and the kit.

It takes exactly one and a half hours to complete the list, which coincidentally is the length of the journey home. So, by the time I get home I know if I need to turn around straight away or hope that whatever I have forgotten to do, turn off or left behind can wait until the next weekend.

The best one was on getting home at 10pm on a Sunday night, I reached into the car to retrieve my bag, which contained laptop and papers for meeting the following day.

The additional three hour round trip was done to the sound of my heavy metal playing at full pelt and a stoic demeanour.
 
Phones, Glasses, Wallet, you name it I've left it, but try not to leave foodstuffs on board, the rats are not long in finding it, and will eat anything else they find, anchor warps, wiring, overalls.
 
I've done the opposite a few times... got to the boat and found I'd left the keys at home.

Now I keep a spare door key hidden on the boat for emergencies, the engine keys are now also hidden inside the boat.
 
I left a fridge full of beer prior to going up to work in Oxford for a week.

I doubt if I even got off the island before my neighbours got in and stripped it clean!

At least they do replace it sometimes. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
Left my car keys on board as we always use the wifes car at weekends. Only 2 hours each way but i couldnt go to work without them so went down in wifes car to get them, got home ......










with the wrong keys so had to back again.

Oh and one of the kids did a secret pooh in the lav didnt dare tell me and didnt flush it properly. Only left for two weeks but bad enough and the mercerata packed in.

Spare boat keys now hidden under jack in side panel of car.
 
Boat keys left at home, battery isolator key at home and drain plug at home. All on separate occasions.

Left keys in the boat ignition for 2 weeks. Got back to the boat and someone had tied a label to the keys saying "Could have pinched it" /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Twas alright she forgave me later, well I was only five mins away /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I thort she said she ws going to the shops and would follow me home, the fact home was miles away and she didn't have a car was lost on me........well thats my excuse /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.
 
my house keys on our first trip to hlb's boat, 310 miles later realised this, so we stopped at hlb's house. got a bit silly when his wife spotted my car parked there, never seen his now his ex wife, but boy have I heard her ! she had already left him.

oh & there's some bread mouldering away there now from February.
