Yep, and enough acrylic canvass to replace every cover on board. It's brilliant and much easier to use than I though. Cut out the new sail cover last night and did the long double seams along the bottom edges which are over 4m long. Two rows of parallel zig-zag stitches, stitches look perfect thanks to the good instructions and video CDs that came with the machine. I was a bit nervous doing the first seam, but there's nowt to it really provided you keep the feed steady and the speed low. No different from using a bandsaw.

The acrylic canvas for sail cover, spray hood, cockpit tent, dodgers, wheel & table covers and hatches etc came to a massive £180.

In one of Terry Pratchet's books a city census found 425 young women who described there profession as "seamstress", they also found one sewing machine.

I have it on good authority that the new YM syllabus includes sail repairs, and the exam will include night stitching.

So stop calling me a poofter!

How do you find lost needles? Think you might be interested in my solution. I magnetised myself. Needles are now attracted to me. This also has the helpful side effect of always being able to find myself with a compass. Very useful for self esteem and dark nights
