Many thanks to you all. Your thoughts are much appreciated. He was, indeed a remarkable man although he never spoke of his exploits and I have learned most of what I know about him from others - a lot of it since he died.

In the late sixties and early seventies when he and I raced his Invicta in club events and, particularly, during Cowes week he used to get infuriated by course setters who set courses so the big boys got back for G&Ts while the small fry were still out there after supper. I sometimes think he only joined the RYS so he could get on the race committee and sort them out
