Condensation?

Unfortunately (for me) not true. This was my dessicant dehumidifier yesterday, and the inside of my boat after it had done its worst.View attachment 82200View attachment 82201
I await the insurance company's decision.

Oh my goodness how upsetting. Presume no one hurt? Were you near?
It is the first desiccant one I’ve heard of doing this. What make was it?
Is there anything we can learn from it’s location etc?

Sorry to see that and hope it's sorted in time for next season. Did you ever clean the dehumidifier's air filter? Only that seems to have been the cause in many of these cases. A lot of folk don't read the manual so don't realise they even have a filter that needs regular cleaning.
What’s a manual??
I’ll be checking and cleaning mine today.

It was a Prem-i-air desiccant dehumidifier, mounted on the worktop beside the sink, for drainage and ventilation. It was securely tied in place, and set at 70% humidity. The filters had been checked three days before the fire.
I had used the same machine for the past few years without problems.
As I said, no injuries and no other boats were damaged, thankfully. The fire was spotted by the marina staff, but had self extinguished.
Insurance company (Craftinsure) were very helpful and efficient, and Constructive Total Loss was declared in just over two weeks with insured value to be paid. Thank goodness for insurance!

I had one of those Prem-i-air dehumidifiers about 9 years ago (sadly on recommendation from the Forum). A short time later, very lightly used, it was recalled by the manufacturer for modification. A beat up model was returned to me but, naively, I had returned all the documentation so had no proof I had been duped.
It lasted a few months before it stopped, by which time I was getting suspicious about fires and took it down the dump.

The clincher is, that a solicitor then contacted me, acting for a third party and very keen to hear about my problems. I don't know, but suspect it was a case of fire started by a fault. if this company still exists I do hope your insurers go after them.

Interesting. Like you I bought it years ago as a result of a recommendation on this forum. Like you, I had it recalled not long after purchase. I don't know if it was the same one that was returned to me, but it seemed OK - at least till last month.

By some fluke, whilst investigating the new forum software, I have just seen the PM I had on this subject in 2014. It includes the following:

"................ I am a consultant forensic engineer investigating a fire aboard a..........yacht that occurred at Brighton Marina in...............2010. The fire involved a Premiair EH1352 dessicant dehumidifier, which was only several days old at the time. ......."#

I can put you in touch if it is of interest.
