have any of you had a problem with dampness under the bunks, we only noticed it about 6 weeks ago,and have had to dry it up each morning. there was quite a lot. and we were wondering if all boats have the same problem.

They do.
Go to Ikea and get a slatted wood bed kit for about 20 quid, cut to the shape of your berths, and put the cushions back over the top. Bingo, issue solved.
It will also help if you ventilate the cabin better too.
Goiot do a nice one that goes in the centre of your hatch, or get a dorade/mushroom vent etc.

We also bought a couple of ‘slatted’ bed mattress bases in the equivalent of Ikea. Cheap, very comfortable and solved the problem.

I’m not sure if the special matting (expensive)? has enough airflow under it?

If we leave the boat for any length of time we jack up the mattress, or invert it to dry out as much as possible.

UTB says it’s the drink - as the mould is only on my side…

VentAir is excellent and not particularly expensive. We have lived on board for 6 months now and don't get damp beds or matresses. There is often a slight dampness on the base board which soon disappears as the day goes on, but no damp on the bottom of the mattress itself.

Lucky you.

You were still alive in the morning then, otherwise: a. Who cares and; b. You were giving off moisture during the night.

Stand the cusions on end when you leave the boat locked up. leave them down and you will rapidly develop mildew stains.
