Here is a rough scale of the passage between the rocks:

In addition, the boat arrived obliquely at the gap (290M length x 35.5m beam in 60m gap)

I think that is where they ended up, not what they hit in the first place.

No they passed through this gap (AIS) and then spun round about 1200m further on facing the entrance to the harbour which is beyond the image shown here.

YeP I already posted that picture but with the scale from Google earth included rather than sketching in the outline of the ship.


It does not seem at all likely that the ship passed through there.
Taking a ship that size through there would be as mad as flying a passenger jet through Tower Bridge

Although some of the AIS posts make it appear that the ship passed through that gap, I think the track is made up of rather infrequent points. The probability is that it passed to the outside and whacked the outer rock on the port side (hence the long exposed hole)

And thats where the divers found metalwork.
