Hi all,
thought I would ask for advice here as you seem a very worldly lot!
Last night nothing on the telly, bored so I took a look at msn chat for the first time,

Phewwwwww what an experience ! anyway thought I would give it a go, so put some details in to a profile, not really knowing what I was doing!.. nothing new there ! only that i was unmarried and in a long term relationship, lived in cornwall and liked sailing. all true, but nothing else, this was not a adult mucky site, so whats the prob you say? do tell!

Well this morning I had a e.mail from a lady who said she lived in the same area as myself and had seen this profile, which had very little on it,
But was looking to meet someone for a uncomplicated relationship, sounded quite convincing
Told me she was at work and there was a firewall preventing incoming mail,

But me being round the block a few times treated this with a lot of sceptism, in fact downright disbelief!...

She told me if I go communications on Windows and dial up this number begins with 0906 won't give anymore in case she is genuine, why look a gifthorse in the mouth?

Now is this is a con I.E a premium rate number and she is the bait to get my hard earned?
Do tell its got me intrigued.

all the best
mike

sounds like a complete con to me, it si a new one on me but I used to look after the internet security for a large hospital untill a year or so ago and what she (virtual she most likely) is saying sounds like a con. If they were to block incoming mail from MSN the Proxy/firewall would most likely stop here getting to MSN in the first place.

There is a new con on the internet every day, first it was SPAM e-mail, then it was pop ups, now premium numbers calls.

Get a firewall for your own PC too, will make it more difficult for the little gits to snoop about in your hard disk when you are on the internet!

Its the biggest scam going. Its just bait to get you to dial the number and fleece you something cronic.

THIS IS A CON..... 0906 numbers are premium rate. You may wish to consider reporting the number to B.T. and/or the Police as I believe it is an offence to give out such numbers without telling folk the cost.

DO NOT RING unless you want a big bill. This IS a premium rate number. Any number beginning 09 is bought from BT at a certain rate, the caller would not know what rate it is set at although genuine businesses like computer service helplines, would warn customers immediately they called what the rate is e.g. £1 per minute. I have seen these at £3.00 a minute on a regular basis, beware /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Well thats that then! and there was me thinking my luck was in!
At least it gave Sue my partner a good laugh, I just showed her the e.mail and the chatsite
I looked at, she could not believe what she was reading!

Its a sad world we live in when people prey on the lonely and the weak!
Not that Im either according to Sue!

Many thanks for all the replies and advice it confirmed exactly what I thought!
mores the pity!.......

I've been told I should be grateful for what I have got, I don't bother any more, just do as I am told for a quiet life /forums/images/icons/wink.gif Although she knows she is very lucky to have me /forums/images/icons/laugh.gif
