I want to use a PC to keep my GPS waypoints in order. The GPS is a Garmin 128.
Can anyone tell me how to transfer way points to and from the GPS so I can organise the waypoints on the PC? The hardware connection is not my problem - it's software to move the data I need help with please.

Apologies if this has been covered before (I'm sure it must hvae been but I couldn't find it with a search of the archive).
Many thanks,
Derek.

I tried some software to take it from an etrex. It appeared to work, although I got bored quite quickly. Thing is, I'll be bu*&@!!£ if I can remember what I used. I'll have a look and post back if I remember.

You had to change the output interface from NMEA to Garmin I think..

Actually it may of been "waypoint1803" or something, out chum Nigel will help you there.

I think you can do it with Maptech software - given away free with the 2002 and 2003 Nautical Almanac.

Seem to remember using this to donwload/upload waypoints from my Garmin 12 handheld

I use GPSU software to transfer waypoints between a PC and a Garmin 12XL. I then manipulate the waypoints with a Basic program but Excel or lotus 123 will suffice.
GPSU is free on the WEB with a licence payable if you use all the facilities. The free part is OK for transferring data. Or at least it was one year ago. I haven't looked since.

I use Garman128 connected to Toshiba laptop running Maptec software(uk/med)
V.simple, accurate,up/downloading and realtime charting and v.reasonably priced.
Maptec software picks up garman straight-off.
