Bit more info pls Phil..

Reloaded ME6? What's ME6?

Is this a new machine or when you say 'loads IE6' you meant start the app?

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

No firewall! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

That's living dangerously to start with! Sounds like a DNS problem but shouldn't be if you are getting through to windows update. Could be any number of mailcious trojans if you have no firewall.

What type of connection do you have?

Have you done an up to date virus scan - preferably an online one like http://uk.trendmicro-europe.com/enterprise/products/housecall_launch.php

More info! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

OK usual question then.. what was your wife (or you!) doing immediately prior to this happenstance?

If it's a NAT router needn't worry too much about firewall being on/off.

Presume you've tried a restart?

Couple of things bother me. Firstly, you may be seeing cached 'front' pages, and secondly, does the MS update seem to do an update every time you ask it to? I'd only expect to see it do it once.

<hr width=100% size=1>my opinion is complete rubbish, probably.

A lot of the online av products have failed for me too. Try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php>http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php</A> and download the free version, do the updates and then do a full scan.

But this doesn't really sound like a virus. You mentioned your firewall, which one are you using?

the firewall does not affect Helens computer.
The problem is, once logged onto the Internet
Any site opens , but I have now discovered that if I wait, a mouse click will work but takes 2-3 minutes to action, then next click the same. Only on the internet, computer works fine otherwise.
I did the full scan and no virus found, I have defragged and have loads of memory,
Thanks for interest

Have you looked at 'processes' in task manager? (Right click task bar to get to it). Click processes, then on the cpu heading. At the top or bottom something will be using the highest %age. Do the same for 'mem usage'. Watch what happens to the processes when you click to go to a new web address.

If something suddenly leaps up, what is it?

Does the entire computer freeze or is it just IE that stops responding? Does the CAPS LED flick on and off when you press the CAPS LOCK key? Will it reboot with CTRL ALT DEL or do you have to power it off? If you CTRL ALT DEL, does it it tell you it is IE that is not responding? If so, if you kill IE, does the computer run normally after that? Does it lock again if you start IE again?

hello again. Its only in IE.
reboots okay with ctr alt dlt and yes it says IE is not responding.
C0mputer works perfectly except in IE.
First page, any page, loads and then freezes for 2-3 minutes on first click to move on and so forth.
Have used Adaware and spy catcher and now loaded Zone alarm.
Have cleared Temp Internet folder.

Is your wifes computer only one on wireless network? problem could be with accessing network, would check is working ok. Also check connection settings in IE.
You may need to uninstall IE first before re-installing.
You haven't downloaded a new driver which might be causing a problem? Possibly go to netgear site and check for latest drivers( obviously would need a different computer to check if your wifes not working)
