Last time I had a problem(with my computer) the forum members gave me great advice so I'm about to try the oracle again.!!!!
I have Norton anti virus on my computer which has for some reason stopped outlook express from getting my emails from NTL. I have tried to find the ON switch for outlook without success. The only way I can get my emails with outlook is to turn off Norton (not recommended) Any nice computer literate person have an idea??

It sounds more like your firewall than Norton AV. Somehow you have told norton firewall not to allow outlook access to the internet.

Follow this and see what happens....

Double click the norton firewall icon in the system tray by the clock

Click options and select firewall if it gives an option, otherwise you should get a window showing norton personal firewall options.

Click advanced options

Then click the firewall tab

scroll down the list to find outlook, there will be around 6 entries, in the rule column on the right hand side you should see blue arrows showing direction of transfer that is allowed. Any red crossed is wrong, highlight those entries and click modify at the bottom.

This allows you to select permit and then either inbound or outbound.

My settings are

outlook http - outbound
outlook email smtp pop3 - outbound
outlook email auth - inbound
outlook news - outbound
outlook email - outbound
outlook directory - outbound

hope this helps

Ships woofy,
Thanks for trying but, I dont think I have the same Norton (2005) as you. I follow what you say until you mention the settings part, there are no rules mentioned for Outlook?????????????????
Fed up with all this crap pass me the pen?

Nice dog, pat pat!
PS I can turn Firewall off and it still wont pick up mail. If I turn Norton off it's OK ?????

Have you tried shutting everything down, having a coffee / beer / whisky, and starting it up again? I've sometimes cleared a similar message that way.

I had exactly the same problem. It is definately NAV that is the problem. In the end I had to spend approx 2 hours on the phone to Norton and had to delete all existing programes and reinstall it.
They were very helpful

First ...

Get a better AV package such as Mcafee for a start ....

Download Stinger from Mcafee site ...
Disconnect from Net .... uninstall Norton - install Mcafee after doing a Stinger scan with ALL files scan ...

That would be what I'd do for a start .....
