I know this is not boaty but then I need my computer to look at boaty things on PBO.

Every time I log on to PBO etc on my other computer it has started to lock up and I cannot close the program. Not even Ctrl Alt Del works and the thing just sits there at 100% CPU usage doing nothing. End up on Reset and reboot.

Any suggetstions.

Try a different Browser

do you connect to the internet to see the PBO site or are you always connected? if you only connect when you open IE9, it sounds like something ia hogging your internet bannwidth like a virus that uses your machine as a bot for sending spam emails.

if you are connected all the time it could be a problem with IE9 and the alternative browser suggestion is a good one. i like firefox as a second browser - chrome is a bitt too enmeshed with other google applications.

Go to "system tools" in "acessories" and restore your PC to a previous date on which you know that the PC worked correctly.

Also
1 : do a full scan with your security software to identify any malicious files and delete them.
2 : delete all cookies and temporary files.

As a last resort - and this is guaranteed to work - save all personal data to an external drive, format the hard drive and re-install your operating system and applications. You should have your valuable personal files frequently backed up anyway.

Download and run CCleaner

If it dosnt work download and use CROME.

Easier to just buy a Mac and not bother with all that rubbish. Wipe your PC and sell it on eBay. You will never look back.

Crashed

Thanks to all for the suggestions. Installed Chrome and it all worked great. Next day computer would not boot up at all.

Looks like a reformat job.

Thanks

One day I will have a boat, a marine engine and a computer which work!

Internet Explorer is bad enough for website designers to deal with (let alone users) that one online store has actually started charging users more for using IE to offset the site development costs incurred in supporting it.

Admittedly this 'tax' applies to IE7 - but newer versions aren't massively improved.
