Complete underwater CCTV system - Maplin offer £50

Speaking to a fisherman today he reckons that these are really good - better than an underwater camera system that he used for survey work.

They do a colour one too apparently.

Best results are without the IR lighting in shallow water apparently as it causes 'backscatter'.

BORROWED ONE RECENTLY DOWN AT OUR MARINA, WORKED GREAT EVN ON BATTERIES, SUPER LITTLE GADGET AND CLEAR PICTURE.
CAMERA FITTED ON THE END OF AN EXTENDABLE POLE GOOD FOR THE PRICE SO MUST RECOMMEND.

Hmm...

Kind of depends on how clear the water is. I bought a 5Mpixel Pentax underwater camera for my daughter and thought it would also be a good way to take a look below the boat. All I saw was murk.

Probably excellent in clear water though.

If you're really keen on saving money Woolworths are doing a survellance system with radio link for £20! Splodge sikaflex all over the joins on the camera to keep out water, buy a broom handle down the pound shop and it should work!

One thing to maybe look out for is what voltage the monitor runs on. Most are 12V.

I just brought one from Maplin. Took it down to the boat, the water was a bit murky but I got a great view of the bottom of the marina. Even saw a few fish swimming about.

I just bought one too. Just seemed like too good an offer to pass up. I'm thinking of attaching a lure and trolling it along behind the boat just so I can see if fish are a) uninterested , b) too slow to catch up with it , c) not there at all.

Would be a God-send with a rope around the prop.

Could probably also check whether the anchor had dug in properly.

Does anyone know what normal visibility is like underwater? I guess it can vary hugely depending on conditions but I'm hoping that a few feet would be "average".
