Competition for Paula.

Found ourselves this afternoon in a swindlery, and lost contact with Becky for a few minutes. When I found her she was trying on some deck shoes. This in itself is no big deal. Then I thought my hearing was playing up, when I heard "I'll take all three". Three pairs, folks. A brown pair, a blue pair and a black pair. These in addition to last year's pair. Anyway mustn't grumble, she's a darn good cook and sailor.

i think the answer must be that Becky eludes to HWMBO at times. He must have got onto the pc and slipped this one in. But pauline became paula.
