Competent Crew course

After many years of gentle persuasion my wife has agreed to do a CC course. She was never a keen sailor and was put off by a lumpy channel crossing during the early days of our boat ownership..I have sailed alone ever since ( 7 years ).

Therefore I wish to choose a sailing school with great care. Ideally one that runs a female only course.My daughter has expressed an interest in joining her so I believe they would take a more active part without men showing off their abilities to the skipper all the time.

The course must be somewhere warm with interesting destinations and preferably conditions that won't alarm them.

Can anyone recommend any sailing schools that will help to nurture this embryonic interest being shown by her?

I know that others on here dont like them but I did enjoy my Comp Crew course with SunSail (Portsmouth).

I had reason for complaint on my first weekend - which I stress was not their fault it was mine for booking the wrong course - but the way that Jackie Jinks resolved it could not be faulted. I was given a day's personal 1-2-1 tuition to get me to a standard where I could convert from comp crew to day skipper for the 2nd weekend. That went really well and I have nothing but praise for the way that Sunsail handled things.

Other members of my family have done various course with www.solentsail.co.uk and they were impressed with both the owner Martin and the instructer called Martin (same name but different people).

My wife couldn't have been classed as an keen sailor to start with iether, although she is starting to enjoy it now as long as there is plenty of wild life to see. She went on an all ladies course with BOSS www.boss-sail.co.uk and enjoyed it on end.

The real winner was getting a good friend to go along with her.

Richard and his wife Petra operate a very nice Beneteau 46 out of Deganwy in North Wales.

They do offer ladies only sailing.

The boat even has heated towel rails in the heads !

Yes it's a bit of a drive but the cruising area is fantastic.

Canary Sail in the Canary Islands are excellent. I think they occasionally arrange single sex courses, at least half of their instructors are female. Weather is warm all year round. Wind is reasonably predictable, and fairly moderate out of the wind acceleration zones.
