Compass reply

This is what I sent back to them......

Dear Mr Marney,
no doubt you were horrified when you got into the office this morning to find hundreds, if not thousands of orders for tenders.
For your information, this subject has been extensively discussed on the worlds largest sailing forum, www.ybw.com . I think in the interests of levity and humour, and to gain some very free goodwill for Compass24, you should go register and post a good natured reply or rebuttal to your adoring public. On the three posts discussing this subject, there have been over 5000 views in three days, and about 200 replies. An opportunity not to be missed.

go here to see : http://www.ybw.com/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/1699598/page/0/fpart/all/vc/1/nt/4

If you go in through the front door of YBW Forums, its in the Scuttlebutt area.

Yours Sincerely
Jim Dew

It was a typo. You knew it, everyone else knows it. Get over it.

Well said.

The childishness on show in this place never ceases to amaze me. I have no further interest in participating, but it is reassuring to know that the prevailing idiocy is not universal.

Re: This is what I sent back to them......

Oi Full Circle. Stop the sycofan ..... stop giving my tender away for me. If Argos can honour an offer, then so can Compass.

So far all I have received is an acceptance of the purchase contract I have offered. Seems to me that this over rides the precedents, in that Compass have agreed to supply at the price on the web site, correct or not. So its not simply a mistake I have taken advantage of, if indeed it ever was a mistake. They have repeated the price and accepted it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: This is what I sent back to them......

Void means the 'contract' never happened. It over-rides offer, acceptance, consideration etc.

There is no obligation.

Re: This is what I sent back to them......

One point, they have not offered it me at any other price at any time, and no where on the web site did I see a different price. Also the sale system was loaded with the same price, so the error must have been twice, and the identical error in typing.

It's funny how the forum goes on about chandler mark up and profits, as soon as the customer could make a little, they are out defending the poor chandler.

Good post Jim :-) and hopefully the sentiment of 99.9% of the posters /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: This is what I sent back to them......

That's what I was thinking. When I got their rather curt email, I replied, pointing out their own terms and conditions, but also adding that they could come on this forum and dig themselves out of the hole they had dug for themselves with a bit of light-hearted banter. I may have missed it but I don't think they've done that. Neither have they replied to me.
Didn't get a dinghy, didn't expect to, wouldn't have accepted one either, but now I'm not so sure I could ever buy anything from a company without a human side to it.

Re: This is what I sent back to them......

I think that they must have had a low stock, and then just run out before the price correction. Mine arrived this morning.

One of their humans is now quite possibly looking for another job thanks to you lot. Having to send out thousands of emails cancelling the orders probably didnt leave them in a humorous frame of mind /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ill be honest in that I use the chandler with the best price unless I can get the item locally for not too much over the going rate.

Re: This is what I sent back to them......

Check it over carefully .I understand they have sent a couple out to people who got them for 3 p that had small scratches on the hull. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
