I need to replace one of my Suunto B95 compasses, which are unfortunately no longer made, as it has developed a slight leak leading to an ever expanding air bubble. I remember seeing a thread on this some time ago and a Ritchie compass was recommended as fitting the same size bulkhead aperture; can anyone recall which model this was or suggest any other compass that might fit? The aperture is about 8.6 cm.

Many Thanks

Dear Baba

Thanks for the suggestion. I have looked at the models in the Ritchie range and I am not sure any of them will fit. Unfortunately the compass is not mounted in the main bulkhead but in the vertical face of a step between the cockpit and the coach roof that limits the height any replacement quite considerably although I don't have an exact measurement to hand. I am sure the Explorer model would fit the step but unfortunately the existing hole is 8.6 cm whereas the Explorer is designed for a hole between 7.46 and 7.78 cm. It may fit, but it rather depends on the diameter of the gasket which is the one parameter missing from the on-line template. The next model up is the Venture which requires a mounting hole of between 11.4 and 12.2 cm which I could enlarge to, but its overall height is 16.6 cm and I am not sure I have that much room vertically. I'll print off the templates to size and try and find out what the gasket diameter of the Explorer is, but if anyone has any other suggestions, please let me have them.
